This is a invity-only call for proposals that address fundamental research questions to advance understanding of post-acute infectious diseases such as ME/CFS. The aim of this call is to fund collaborative consortia who develop innovative research projects based on preliminary data generated in the first round of WWTF funding.
Scope of the Call
This call is open toinvites collaborative research consortia that aim to advance ourcritical understandingknowledge of etiopathogenesis, diagnostics and/or therapy ofin post-acute infectious diseases, namelywith particular emphasis on Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS.CFS), Projectsthrough addressinginnovative projects that push the boundaries of current understanding in etiopathogenesis, diagnostics, and therapeutic interventions. Who can apply?
- Principal Investigators (PI) who already received funding in the WWTF ME/CFS Call 2024 - Understanding ME/CFS
- Core research team up to three researchers
- The coordinating PI must be based at a university or non-university research institution in Vienna
- Co-PIs may be based outside of Vienna (funding limited to 30% of the overall budget)

24 – 48 months
Funding
- Call volume: € 2.000,000
- Project budget: € 500,000 - € 1.000,000
- Personnel and non-personnel costs can be claimed
- Max. 40% non-personnel costs
- Up to 20% overhead costs
Timeline
- Proposal deadline: June 23rd, 2026, 2pm CET
- Expected funding decision: October, 2026
- Project start: latest January, 2027
