Scope of the Call

ThisProjects in this call isshould openadvance tounderstanding researchersof a clinically relevant research question by contributing to, or utilising, insights based on high-quality datasets from allwell-defined areaspatient cohorts. Anticipated research outcomes should have clear implications for improving the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of ICT.a human disease. Projects should addresscontribute fundamental,to hypothesis-drivenunderstanding of disease pathogenesis or treatment-relevant biological processes at a mechanistic level. Research teams must demonstrate interdisciplinarity across clinical, biological, data analysis and/or engineering research questions, develop and apply cutting-edge methodology, and present a clearly defined research plan. Project topics may range from theoretical computer science to the intersection of ICT with other domains (e.g. health, energy, industry, transport, finance and other societal issues). Proposals should focus on advancing basic knowledge in ICT while laying the foundations for future high-impact applications. Projects may be focused within a single discipline or be interdisciplinary in nature.fields.

Who can apply?
  • Core research team of up to three principal investigators (PIs)
  • The coordinating PI (PI&C) must be based at a university or research institute in Vienna
  • Co-PIs may be based outside of Vienna (funding limited to 20% of total budget)
  • Co-PIs from Lower Austria may apply for up to 49% of the overall budget (Joint Project)
