This is a call for small exploratorycutting-edge research projects that address fundamental research questionsseek to advanceimprove understanding of post-acutea infectiousfundamental diseasesquestion suchin asICT. ME/CFS. The aim of this call is to generate preliminary data. 


Scope of the Call

        

This call is open to researchresearchers teamsfrom thatall aim to advance our understandingareas of etiopathogenesis, diagnostics and/or therapy of post-acute infectious diseases, namely ME/CFS. Projects addressing novel research avenues and questions are strongly encouraged. This call seeks to support projects that generate preliminary data.ICT. Projects should bringaddress togetherfundamental, experimentalhypothesis-driven research questions, develop and clinicalapply approachescutting-edge methodology with a clearly defined research plan. Proposed topics may range from theoretical computer science to the intersection of ICT with other domains (e.g. health, energy, industry, transport, finance and other societal issues). Proposals should focus on advancing basic knowledge in aICT meaningfulwhile way.laying Interdisciplinarythe collaborationsfoundations acrossfor biomedical,future computerhigh-impact andapplications. clinicalProjects sciencesmay arebe highlyfocused welcome. ME/CFS is part ofwithin a complexsingle diseasediscipline clusteror calledbe post-acuteinterdisciplinary infectiousin diseases.nature. Projects investigating other post-acute infectious diseases that show post-exertional malaise are also eligible for funding.

Who can apply?
  • Core research team of up to three researchersprincipal investigators (PIs)
  • Principal Investigators (PI) from all disciplines
  • The coordinating PI must be based at a university or non-university research institutioninstitute in Vienna
  • Co-PIs may be based outside of Vienna (funding limited to 30%20% of the overalltotal budget) 
  • Co-PIs from Lower Austria may apply for up to 49% of the overall fundingbudget (Joint Projects)Project)

  • Applicant response phase: between August 11 – 24, 2025 (exact dates TBD)
