Scope of the Call

This call is open for projects which promoteengage with current needs in the promotion of good data practices byin creatinga defined context as "executable applicationsapplications"  Desirable projects promote goodfor data practicesin research. by creating executable applications that are sustainable and impactful.

  • Projects must align with institutional data and digitalization strategies and not be one-off solutions.

  • Outputs"Applications" should be code-basedunderstood applicationswidely as, e.g.suchtransferable asuse cases, software prototypes,prototypes, modelling, information/data models (metadata, schema definitions and ontologies), data environments.
    "Executable" means that the applications developed should be easily integrated into code or ontologies.

  • Applications must be integrable into existing or future datasoftware environments orin workflows.

  • Projects shouldcan identifytake place in potentialany userscientific groupsarea, ideally across institutions or disciplinary communities.

  • Proposals must outline strategies for sustainabilityi.e., impact, and dissemination, favoring open science and FAIR principles.

  • Activities like data production, training, or text-based strategy papers areis not consideredlimited eligibleto outputs.computer science. However, the nature of the projects requires the integration of IT competences into the projects. 

Who can apply?
  • Core team with up to three key collaborators with a coordinating PI assuming also managerial tasks 
  • The coordinating PI must be based at a university or non-university research institution in Vienna
  • Co-PIs may be based outside of Vienna (funding limited to 20% of the overall budget)
Funding:
  • Project duration: 12-24 months
  • Budget for individual projects:  € 50,000 - 100,000
  • Overall call volume: 800.000 €
  • Personnel and non-personnel costs can be claimed; max. 30% non-personnel costs
  • No inkind contributions are required; no overhead costs will be paid
Timeline:
  • Proposal deadline: September/October,October 30, 2025, 2pm CET 
  • Expected funding decision: December 20252025/January 2026
  • Project start:start until: 1.5.6.2026

  • Application via WWTF Funding Portal
  • Pre-selection by institutions
  • One-stage call process
  • Selection by a jury composed of international and national experts
